Concussion

Picture
I witnessed a really good example of putting an individuals health before the importance of winning a match yesterday. A player from AL14's arrived for duty not looking 100% after sustaining a head knock in a game of Rugby League the day before. When asked by his father how he was feeling, he responded I will be OK, both his parents immediately said you aren't playing. Despite the importance of the game where they needed to win and this player being an integral part of that team, his parents stood firm and refused to let him play. I believe that the player himself knew that he wasn't fit to play but didn't want to let his team down. Sometimes all that it takes is for someone else to say you aren't playing to take the decision out of the individuals hands. As it was the team won 1-0 and qualified for the semi finals next week. Hopefully with a graduated return to play program the player will be able to resume playing again in time for next weekends Semi Final -
Well done to the parents and the player for managing this appropriately - it serves a good example to everyone
