Female Footballers Across The Sutherland Shire Celebrate The Beautiful Game -
featuring our own Justine Dibley and daughter Chelsea Lea
Female players representing their clubs across the Sutherland Shire have come together to help celebrate Female Football Week (Monday 7th March – 14th March 2016). Female Football Week is a nationwide initiative where the football community will continue to drive female participation at all levels of the game and celebrate the immense growth of the women’s game and recognise existing players, coaches referees and administrators responsible for this success.
Female player participation in the beautiful game across the Sutherland Shire exceeds 5,000 players which outstrips participation by both males and females in all other codes of football (League, Union, AFL and Gridiron) combined. The 27 clubs that make up the Sutherland Shire Football Association (the largest Association across New South Wales) participate in a MiniRoos format provided for young girls who are turning 5 years old or older, through to graded competitions that begin at Under 12 and extend through to open Women's and Over 30 Women's leagues. There is an opportunity for girls and women at all ages to participate and be active in football, whether it be for fun, for fitness or for competition. Sutherland Titans also run teams for females with disabilities and these teams play against all other Shire clubs.
Representing each of these clubs, the Sutherland Shire Referee's Association and the local Sutherland Sharks Representatives, female footballers also came together reflecting the tremendous unity and pride that helps support and grow football across the Sutherland Shire. Women of all ages play an integral role in coaching, in administration and operation of the game across the Sutherland Shire community.
With the 2016 season due to kick off in early April, over 460 female teams have been registered and many young girls, up to the age of 12 also play in mixed MiniRoo sides. The clubs that make up the Sutherland Shire Football Association are Bangor, Bonnet Bay, Bundeena Maianbar, Barden Ridge, Bosco, Caringbah Redbacks, Como West-Jannali, Cronulla RSL, Cronulla Seagulls, Engadine Crusaders, Engadine Eagles, Georges River, Grays Point, Gwawley Bay, Gymea, Heathcote, Kirrawee, Lilli Pilli, Loftus Yarrawarrah, Marton, Menai, Miranda, North Sutherland, St Patricks, Sylvania Heights, Sutherland Titans, Sutherland Referees and Sutherland Shire WPL.
St Patrick's FC lose it's longest serving player
Mark (Cos) Lewis (9/12/1962 - 18/09/2016)
It is with deep sadness that the club informs you of the passing of Mark (Cos) Lewis who passed away overnight following a short battle with illness. Mark recently celebrated his 48th year with his beloved St Patrick's FC family with a runners up medallion with his team mates in the 45D's competition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his mother Lorna, his sister, his family and all of his team mates in the 45D's. His family played an integral part in the early history of the club with his mother being the first canteen manager and Cos commencing his career with St Pats in 1969. Mark was named a life member of the club in 2014 to go with his player life membership |
Details of Marks funeral will be posted when they become available. Coz can be seen here below far bottom left holding his runners up medal with his team mates following this years Grand Final
